Jo and Chris / Tewin Bury Farm wedding photography, Hertfordshire

When Chris was a child, he had a fascination with aeroplanes and used to hang out with the people and planes at Panshanger aerodrome in Hertfordshire. Now he’s all grown up, he’s still obsessed with aeroplanes and works in air traffic control, but still knows the guys that fly at Panshanger. So when he got engaged to Jo, one of his flying friends agreed to put on an acrobatic air display for them at their wedding reception. How cool is that?

Not to be outdone by the “pulling an air display” trick, Jo allowed her creative juices to flow and not only did she design and make all the stationery herself, but also the bunting, the table runners and the bridesmaids’ jewellery and hair clips! What a talented and well-connected couple!

So their wedding was always going to be amazing. From the moment I first met them (which I think must be at least 2 years ago – Jo is very efficient too!) I could tell it was going to be fun. And it really was. Not only were the family photos some of the most crazy I have ever taken, but the bridesmaids had all brought fun pink sunglasses with them to add a bit of attitude!

10 things you (maybe) didn’t know about me

This last week has been an eye opener for me in so many ways. Not only have I discovered that if I stay up until about 2am every night that I turn into a bit of a zombie! But I feel as if I finally understand what it is I am trying to achieve with my business and how I can get there. Or at least I can see the start of the pathway. I’m going to be shaking up my business over the coming weeks and months, because I want to offer you all the best experience possible. I want you to be so excited about having me photograph you before I even pick up my camera. And I want you to be even happier by the time I have finished.

So I thought I’d try to get a bit more personal on my blog and instead of only showing you what I do all the time, I’d start telling you a bit about who I am, why I do what I do and what motivates me too. So I’m beginning with a quick get-to-know-me list….

I love lists. I have lists for everything. They help me keep my mind in order when everything else is in chaos.
My dream holiday is to go to Svalbard and I am determined to get there with my camera in the next couple of years. Polar bears, snow and midnight sun excitement!
I am definitely a morning person. In fact, I think I turn into a pumpkin at midnight!
I was recently diagnosed with coeliac disease, which is an auto-immune disorder. This means that I have to follow a gluten-free diet for the rest of my life. I’m actually coping with the changes much better than I expected, but I can’t tell you how much I am missing cakes right now…
I used to play the saxophone in a Big Band at university, and have always wanted to learn jazz piano.
I love making things. When I’m not photographing, I’m usually sewing, making cards, baking, quilting or doing something else crafty.
I can juggle.
I love marmite.
I have 2 crazy but cute tabby cats. Sabrina (named after the Audrey Hepburn film, not the teenage witch!) and Sebastian.
Photography is also my hobby. And my passion. It consumes my everyday life. But to get away from the business, I’ll take out my large format camera (with bellows and a dark cloth over my head) and create photographs in the tranquillity and beauty of the UK landscape.

So there you are. A little soupçon of information about who I am. The woman behind the camera… I look forward to hopefully getting to know you too through my blog (so please do comment – I love hearing from you).

On Saturday, I photographed Georgina’s 40th birthday party. And what other reason does a girl need to buy herself a gorgeous pair of Jimmy Choo shoes?

Poppy and Mark had their wedding reception in the garden of Poppy’s childhood home in Oxfordshire. The family home is a beautiful old building. And I mean REALLY old. It was even mentioned in the Doomsday book (that’s almost a thousand years ago!) Poppy’s mother had been working really hard in the garden for months, to make sure that it was gorgeous and colourful on their big day. And it did look totally stunning. So many people commented on it and all the hard work that must have gone into it (and also mentioned that if Poppy’s mum is available, there are several guests’ gardens who are now seeking her as a gardener!)

The couple’s two dogs weren’t forgotten on the day either, and joined in the celebration in the village church (they were extremely well behaved!) where Mark’s brother also played the piano and his sister played the saxophone while the register was being signed.

I could go on all day about how amazingly beautiful everyone looked and how gorgeous their wedding was. But Poppy and Mark are also really lovely people and made me feel like their friends as well as their wedding photographer. Their day was filled with so much laughter and love, it was a real joy to be a part of it.

Earlier this year, I went to visit some friends in Sweden. They happened to be having a party while I was there and one of their friends happened to be a wedding planner. Obviously, we got chatting. When I got back to the UK, I received an email from the wedding planner asking if I would want to photograph a wedding in Sweden this summer as one of her clients had taken a look at my website and loved my images. Would I want to photograph a wedding in Sweden?! Hell yes!!

I knew that My and Marcus’ wedding would be amazing as soon as they described it as a “rock and roll wedding” to me! Complete with a vintage American car, skull jewellery, a stone amphitheatre and a Swedish castle. Oh, and a VERY hot day! I loved so much about their wedding, I just had to include loads of images in this blog post.

My and Marcus – I hope you love these images. You are an amazing and beautiful couple, and it was such an honour being asked to fly to Sweden to share your day with you. And I hope that no-one was too traumatised by me speaking “Swenglish” to everyone!

It was blowing what seemed like a gale the morning I took my 4-year-old niece out with my camera. Not a great combination for a girl who is trying to grow out her fringe and is quite particular about having every piece of it held back in her clip! But I still laugh every time I look at these photos. It really is exactly as it was that day. And it really is exactly Rebecca.

Belinda and Matt are having what sounds like a delightful intimate wedding with only their closest family and friends next month. So we met a couple of weeks ago for their engagement shoot in an area close to where they live. But as we pulled into the car park, the heavens opened and we had a torrential downpour! But with every cloud there is a silver lining, or as in this case, the wonderful dramatic sky when the rain finished.

I can’t wait to blog their complete wedding which included an aeroplane acrobatic display. Absolutely amazing (and a little bit scary!) A couple of weeks ago, my wedding photographer friend, Jo Curtis, called me up and asked if I could help her out at a wedding she was photographing. I jumped at the chance. I really love photographing weddings, getting to know the couple and being a part of their special day, even if it’s only for a few hours. And how gorgeous was Gail and Trevor’s wedding venue? The amazing Creeksea Place Tudor mansion in Essex. It really is a dream for a wedding with details and interesting corners and features wherever you turn.
